Notes for: Frederick Walter Taylor

Email from Morag Mitchell, granddaughter of Frederick Walter Taylor.
Hello Warwick

I don't know what happened to my e-mail in December. Unfortunately I have also lost your previous e mails to myself. In fact I have lost all my info (computer crashed). So if I give you info I previously have, then accept my apologies.

Grandad resided at 37 Bensham Manor Road, Thornton Heath in 1914.

Unfortunately I have received information that my grandad's war records were destroyed during the Blitz. So the only record we have is his medal cards. So the details concerning the RE connection are still unknown. However, from the details I have and a copy of the same photograph you have of him, I am aware that grandad was granted 14 days leave on 19/01/1918 to 02/02/1918 from Poperingle and this was granted by 39 Division Artillery.

During the Second World War he was a member of the Home Guard in London. I am aware through my mum that he served in Egypt, but she does not remember any further details.

Grandad received the following:
1914-1918 George V Medal.
1914-1919 The Great War for Civilisation Medal.
1939-1945 George VI Medal
1939-1945 Defence Medal George VI

Grandad-Frederick Taylor married Lilian Maud Brackenborough on 21/06/1924 and they resided at 40 Cotford Road, Hackney, London. They had one daughter (my mum) Eileen Dorothy Taylor, 21/02/1930, who then resided at 93 Norbury Court rd, Norbury.

Grandad was a partner in T & G Display Studios, an advertising business with his friend Alex Green (NFD) somewhere local to Norbury, London. I understand that he was a painter, designer etc. Grandad sold up and moved to Capel Curig, North Wales in August 1954 where grandad and grandma ran a guest house called Llugwy. Grandad was also founder member and past president of North Wales Mountaineering Club And enjoyed motorbikes. Grandma died in 1980, with grandad dying on 11/10/1982.

My mother Eileen married my father Duncan William Blair Graham at St Phillips church, Norbury on 03/03/1951 and they then moved to Clydebank, Scotland where my father was from and where they had 6 children (4 girls, 2 boys) of which I am number 4. My father died in 1973. My mother moved to Capel Curig in 1980 and ran the guest house until 1983. She still resides in the village with my youngest sister and her husband.

As for myself, as said previously married to Gary, one daughter and two grandchildren.

I hope that this is of some use to you, and if I can be of any further help then please let me know. Good luck with all your searching.

Both myself and Gary hope that the bush fires do not harm you or your family.

Best wishes
Morag and Gary Mitchell
