(Copy on File) Event Notes Note (1) Correct Name: Bernard Byrne, no birth, death or marriage details are recorded in the County of Westmeath, Ireland as researched by the Dun na Si Heritage Centre, Moate, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. Name appears on: Assisted Immigrants Board List for 1857 Ships John Lucy to Zeimindar Ship "MARY ANN" as Barney, father of Thomas Byrne and was living in Mullingar / DC of son Thomas Byrne as Thomas Byrnes[sic], occupation: Farmer Note (2) Name appears on: Assisted Immigrants Board List for 1857 Ships John Lucy to Zeimindar Ship "MARY ANN" as Bessy, mother of Thomas Byrne and was deceased. Correct Name: Elizabeth Gardener, no birth, death or marriage details are recorded in County of Westmeath, Ireland as researched by the Dun na Si Heritage Centre, Moate, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. Note (3) Thomas was born one of a twin in Jan 1828. Note (4) The Thomas Byrne living at this address could be either Thomas Byrne the father or Thomas Byrne the son, although living at this same address is Mary Ann McDonald daughter of Thomas Byrne, so I tend to think it is Thomas Byrne the father as he would have been 75 years of age and may have required domestic care. Mary Anns husband Duncan was living at 12 Kent Street Millers Point with Robert Byrne and his wife Elizabeth and Roberts brother Patrick. Note (5) Death Certificate Notes: Thomas’ wife Catherine’s surname has been incorrectly entered. Fathers firstname noted as being Thomas...in fact it is Bernard. Thomas’ DOB is in contrast to the Assisted Immigrants List which states his age as thirty years in 1857 putting his DOB at 1827, his daughters BC states he was Fourty years in 1870 putting his DOB at 1830 and his DC which states that he died in March 1909 at the age of seventy two years which would put his DOB at 1837. In light of this and taking into account the informants of these documents, Thomas himself in the case of the Immigrants List, Thomas’ wife’ in the case of their daughters BC and Thomas’ son in the case of his DC. Church records in Westmeath Ireland have his date of birth registered as Jan 1828 which relates closely to the Assisted Immigrants list. Thomas’ DC states that they were married in the County of Meath whereas his wife Catherines DC states they were married in County of Westmeath. A possible reason for this is that Catherine passed away before Thomas and as Thomas acted as the informant of her DC it gave it more accuracy, whereas Thomas’ son was the informant of his DC and may not have been aware of the two different counties. Gertrudes BC states that three girls were dead as at 1870, the informant was Gertrudes mother Catherine who would definitely know who was what, whereas Catherines DC of 1896 states that four females were deceased, the informant being Thomas himself which makes it all the more confusing. Thomas’ DC of 1909 on the other hand states that two males and two females were deceased, informant on his DC was his son Robert. I give up! I don’t place much credence in the family details on Thomas’ DC as there are to many irregularities. Note (6) The funeral was held at his daughters residence, Mary McDonald (nee Byrne). Note (7) Thomas and his wife Catherine are both buried in this grave. Their eldest son John and their grandson William J Luck are both buried in the next grave, number 91. Headstone Inscription - This portion of the Cemetery was cleaned up and all traces of headstones were removed.
