(Copy on File) Event Notes Note (1) Carl was noted as being a Soldier posted in Hamburg in 1859 on his sons baptism certificate Note (2) Relationship only thru an indecent act... it might be that Johann was born as the result of an indecent act. Note (3) Son Johann J. Seitz born to Anna and Carl Seitz - 16 September 1859 in Elmshorn Germany. Note: On Johann's baptism certificate under the heading of "Surname of Child", the childs name appears as "Scharmer unehelich Spurius Seitz" which when translates roughly says " Scharmer illegitimate with no legal right to the name Seitz" this indicates that Johann was born illegitimate and had no legal right to the name of the father, instead he should have adopted the maiden surname of his mother, not knowing the legalities and law of the day in 1850's Germany I can only surmise that if born illegitimately the child should adopt the surname of the mother. Remarks on the certificate from the Baptism Register states "1. Confined (?) By her mother, the widow Scharmer Loc Stuprationes: Hamburg. 2. Sexual Offence." The full meaning of the comment "2. Sexual Offence" can only be SPECULATED on (I say speculated as there is no evidence to support what took place). It may indicate that a sexual offence (rape) took place which lead to the birth of Johann. Anna never married the father Carl Seitz, but it does appear that Anna did marry a Johann Thee on the 10 Apr 1859. Johann Thee appears as a godfather for Johann J. Seitz on the Baptism Certificate. Note (4) This occupation was employed to stoke the coal fires at a Gas Works, in this case Johann was employed at the Mortlake Gas Works on the Parramatta River Sydney NSW. This employment may have bought Johann into contact with the Coal Lumpers who were employed to load and off load the coal at the Gas Works and may have enticed him to change his employment and move to Millers Point Sydney NSW. Note (5) At the time of the 1891 Census there were five related families residing in Concord Rd Concord. The 1891 Census District 96/A for household #108 noted John Seitz as being the head of the family with 3 males and 4 females, Household #107 was William Abbott and his family of 1 male and 3 females, and in Household #109 was Richard Morgan and his family - 3 males and 6 females. Joseph Morgan and his family - 6 males and 6 females, Frederick Morgan's family - 4 males and 2 females also appear in the Census. (Source is an Email from Clare Stapleton Concord). Note (6) Northen Suburbs Cemetery is now called Macquaire Park Cemetery and Crematorium Headstone Inscription - In Loving Memory of Our Dear Mother Lucy Amelia beloved wife of John Seitz 20-7-1936 aged 78 and her beloved husband John Joachim Seitz died 20 July 1952 aged 97.
