Rosetta's name appears as Rosetta T Ward in this database, as she was born and appeared with that name in the Census's prior to the marriage of Charles Turner to Anna Maria Ward. Note (3) Her first name Anna does appear on some documents as Hannah or is missing altogether and only uses the name Maria. Note (4) This marriage took eleven years to find. As can be seen Anna Maria Ward married under the name Hannah Maria Ward SMITH for some unknown reason. I have discounted the theory that she had the name Smith from a previous marriage as all her children up until 1871 were registered in the Census's as having the surname Ward. One of the witness's to the marriage is Clementina Burton who could be the older sister of Charles. The other witness is Isaac Turner who could be Charles father or another relation. The Notes below appear on Anna Maria Ward's profile and explain why Charles Turner is not listed as the father for the children born before he married Anna in 1877, I cannot find any documentation to say he was the father so far (as at 6/11/2007) First seven children appear to be born out of marriage. Anna was the Head of the family according to the 1871 Census and noted as being UNmarried, the census also lists six children all with the surname Ward, indicating that she had not married Charles Turner at that time, which did not happen until 1877. As at 1871 Charles Turner was still living with his parents.Turner surname does not appear until at least 1877 with the birth of Beatrice Turner which is confirmed on her Birth Certificate. Note (5) Born at 6:30 AM Note (6) Name entered in the Census as Hannah M. Note (7) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (8) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (9) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (10) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (11) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (12) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (13) Orlando's name is noted as being John Orlando Ward in the 1891 UK Census. Note (14) Orlando was the informant on his mothers death certificate. Note (15) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. UPDATE - Rosetta is noted as being the witness and daughter of Charles Turner on his death certifcate. Note (16) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (17) The father is NOT confirmed for this person or any of the children born to Anna Maria Ward prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (18) Father NOT confirmed for all births prior to 1877 when Charles Turner and Ann Maria Ward married. Note (19) Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. R.M.S. Witness my hand, this 19th day of June 1880. W. Burrows Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths Coslany Sub District---- Note (22) Leah Turner is noted as being the sister of the Head of the family which does not make any sense considering his last name is Easton. Note (23) Census also includes the Hotel name "Marlborough Arms". As Leah Turner was a Barmaid working at this hotel she might not have been living at this address. She may have been working the night of the Census. Note (24) The Dwelling that Augustus and Leah and family lived in at the time of the 1911 Census consisted of only 3 rooms excluding the bathroom. Note (25) Headstone Inscription - IN Loving Memory of our Dear Parents Augustus W. Note (26) Information on his daughters BC states he was married at Blackfriars, England. There are discrepancies between his marriage certificate and his two youngest childrens BC’s as to the year of his marriage.
